As I mentioned in this post, one of my 2018 resolutions is to read more. Specifically, to read in a wider variety of genres. More specifically, to conquer some of the unread books that have been sitting on my bookshelf for months—nay, years!
To that end, I’ve divided 2018 into 12 genre-themed months. I started off with juvenile fiction, or middle grade, and I read a good mix of genres within this age group. I even had time to review a couple of them.
- The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley (high fantasy)
- The Player King by Avi (historical fiction)
- All Four Stars by Tara Dairman (contemporary)
- Doll Bones by Holly Black (horror)
- Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine (fairy tale)
- Half-Moon Investigations by Eoin Colfer (mystery)
- The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin (contemporary)
- The Map to Everywhere by Carrie Ryan & John Parke Davis (fantasy)
Eight books in 31 days was a stretch for me, but I cheated a little because I started The Blue Sword in December, and I listened to two others on audiobook. Still, I’m proud of myself for getting that many books closer to my 2018 goal of 50. Now to start on my next month of books: Fairy Tale February!
