I didn’t read as much this month, because I was busy with, well, life. My mother visited the last week of February, so I spent most of that time shopping, walking the dog, watching movies, and working on craft projects with her.
Also, the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Who knew watching people do dangerous things with dangerous objects attached to their feet could be so enthralling?
My theme for this month was fairy tales. I covered a variety of books, running the gamut from fantasy adventure to surrealism, and from middle grade to adult. Some were haunting. Some were humorous. All were magical.
- Mr. Fox by Helen Oyeyemi (modern fairy tale loosely based on Mr. Fox)
- Mirror Mirror by Gregory Maguire (Snow White retelling bordering on historical fiction)
- Frogkisser! by Garth Nix (MG fantasy with lots of fairy tale tropes)
- The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black (YA fantasy with lots of fairies)
- Cinder by Marissa Meyer (YA sci-fi Cinderella retelling)
- My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me edited by Kate Bernheimer (anthology of modern fairy tales)
This brings my tally to 14 books so far in 2018, on track to exceed my yearly goal of 50. Next up: Mystery March!
You left out cake tasting.
