My dog Winnie is my biggest fan, my writing coach, my muse, and my footwarmer (during winter months). She’s such an integral part of my writing process, I really should start crediting her as co-author on everything I write. I mean, look at all the hard work she does!

My family adopted Winnie in 2005, after some bad person named her Gucci, mistreated her, and dumped her at the shelter. We gave her a loving home (and a way better name) ASAP. She was always “my dog” because she was more attached to me than anyone else. When I went to college, she continued to live with my parents and use my empty bed as her throne. Then, when I graduated and moved to Colorado for a job, she came with me!

We’ve since had many adventures here, and she has (finally) grown to love my fiancé Andrew:

We had a big scare last summer, when two much larger dogs attacked Winnie. But after a weekend in the hospital, two surgeries, and three weeks of bedrest, she made a full recovery. Even at age 13, she has a fighting spirit!

She’s helped me write countless novels, short stories, poems, and blog posts…

…but her talents aren’t limited to writing! Winnie also excels at playing soccer, chewing on things, and sniffing out rodents in woodpiles.

Not to mention her fashion sense is unparalleled.

Her other hobbies include napping, resting, and lounging.

Here’s to you, Winnie! Where would I be without you?
